e continue to pioneer applications of liquid crystals in the UV and infra red (telecommunications and displays systems & components). The apabilities of our laboratories, drawing upon the pooled skills and resources of the technology schools of Cambridge University, is driven by innovative evelopments in supra-molecular science and technology. The Photonics and Sensors Group is central to an ambition to co-ordinate and provide ac us for interdisciplinary activities within several university groups. We seek to use the platform grant to sustain and enhance our capabilities as this mbition is realised. In particular it is vital to retain our staff team who have enabled us to achieve a world leading position in liquid crystal science and chnology. The skills are unique and the extension of current programmes in holographic displays and advanced photonics component technologymi the core of the research proposed. The application of liquid crystal technology to optical devices in combination with the opportunities presented by vanced polymers and nano-scale technology is expected to be a very challenging and fruitful area in which to conduct research. We believe thatuid crystal science informs technology opportunities throughout the photonics sector. We have industrial partners whom have shown great interest in r skills. The platform grant is an opportunity to both sustain and develop our group.
