Summary on Grant Application Form
The Consortium for Decision Support and Socio-economic Incentives and Barriers (CoDeS) is based on the integration of environmental, social and economic research and comprises a multidisciplinary membership. The core Consortium members are five universities, two research institutions and several industrial/public body partners. As a result of the EPSRC decision to invite batched submissions of proposals and the fact that CoDeS Consortium is invited to submit the proposal for the core research programme in January 2004, the members have decided to prepare an application for a scoping study. This will allow the multi-discipline, multi-centre Consortium members to collaborate and maintain a level of activity in the interim period. Due to the overarching nature of this Consortium, which will address some generic decision-support issues and their implications to sustainability, there is already a growing interest among other problem-specific consortia to consider joint proposals for the plus element of the research programme. Past experience has shown that truly collaborative efforts of this type require substantial travel and subsistence funding in order that staff at the collaborating institutes can spend the necessary time working together.
