Summary on Grant Application Form
The application is for funds to support a research period based at the University of Canterbury (Departments of Civil Engineering and Forestry) and at the Canterbury Pavements Test Indoor Facility (CAPTIF), both in Christchurch, New Zealand. The purpose of the visit will be to engage in collaborative research in the area of unsealed and thinly surfaced pavements and their constituent materials. In particular, it is intended to develop an analytical unsealed pavement design procedure, drawing on existing information in the literature, the applicant's research record and the collaborants files. Specifically, the collaborants will provide access to, and help in interpretation of, full-scale accelerated pavement testing data from the CAPTIF facility. The opportunity to visit other Australasian and North American centre will be taken to enlarge the study and to promote ongoing research collaboration not only with the collaborants in Christchurch. A research colloquium is planned for November 2002 in Christchurch to act as a dissemination and review event so that the research findings may be better tuned to the experience of the researchers and practitioners familiar with unsealed and thinly surfaced pavements.
