Summary on Grant Application Form
Practical considerations force environmental regulators to base air quality criteria on measurements of air pollution made at fixed site, ambient monitors. However, at best, these only approximate actual human exposure to those pollutants. In fact people move around through a variety of microenvironments through the day and the exposure in some of these may be only crudely related to ambient levels. The discrepancy can be quit pronounced because of pollution from sources within the micro-environment.The proposed research project will finish the construction of a web-based exposure simulation model that uses the ambient levels as input, but also takes account of indoor sources of pollution as well as the effects of human behaviour in generating predicted exposures. Replicate runs from the r will be made and analyzed to determine amongst other things, the relationship by demographic group between ambient and actual exposure.
