Summary on Grant Application Form
The network will encompass the design, fabrication, characterisation and theory of a range of nanoelectronic devices, including:Optimization and control of charge and spin transport in normal metals, semiconductors and hybrid ferromagnetic/normal/superconducting structures, along with studies of transport in dilute magnetic semiconductors and spin transistors.Development of controllable single and multiple qubit systems with Josephson junctions and quantum dots, along with the interrogation of quantum states of qubits with low levels of disturbance and studies of entanglement, decoherence, geometric phase and teleportation.Bridging the gap between bio-and nanophysics by mechanical and electronic manipulation of biological macromolecules with special emphasis on carbon nanotubes and single molecules of DNA.Developing new theories of generic and material specific transport (both ac and dc), aimed at describing spin and charge dynamics, decoherence and strong correlation effects in confined geometries such as quantum dots, wires, nanotubes and nanoparticles.
