Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed core research, led by the three academic partners of the TechniTex Partnership, proposes to investigate the three fundamental areas for the engineering of technical textiles: modelling, measurement, and manufacture with particular focus on fabric coating for medical applications. These three areas will be integrated to enable true engineering of technical textile materials. The research will study the difficult problems in the structure, mechanics, and production of textile materials, focussing on technical fabrics. We will seek to establish interactions between the structure-property relationships and their influence on manufacturing, in order that the functional and performance requirements of new products can be best achieved. The vision of the core research proposal is to provide a generic engineering base upon which specific requirements may be further developed more effectively by research & development within companies or by collaboration on application projects. The proposal has the full support of our industrial partners and has been developed in close co-operation with them.
