Summary on Grant Application Form
Describe the proposed research in about 200 words. The proposed research addresses sensor integration in interactive systems for acquisition of user-level context to support situated human-computer interaction. Acquisition of situational context is of particular interest in the emerging areas of wearable computing and ubiquitous computing, which u turn pose specific challenges on sensor integration, e.g. device limitations and dynamic configuration. While most of the early work on sensor-basec context acquisition is focussed on either positioning or vision, our aim is to investigate the integration of diverse types of sensor for acquisition of us( context. In previous research, we have successfully built device prototypes for initial exploration of the concept in specific application scenarios. Buil on the experience gained, we now aim to develop a framework and reusable software components for multi-sensor context acquisition. We further a to explore novel applications in wearable and ubiquitous computing enabled by multi-sensor context, and to investigate allocation of context process between mobile/wearable devices and ubiquitous computing infrastructure.
