Functional imaging is rapidly becoming recognised as a powerful tool for the clinical investigation and management of cancer. In this workshop we she create a group of scientists and clinicians committed to developing this new technology for the benefit of children with brain tumours. The workshop w take place over 2 days. The first day and a half will be an open meeting and consist of a number of key talks given by experts in the field with a focussed discussion period at the end of each session. The workshop will start by defining the clinical challenges which need to be met. This will be followed by talks from two international speakers detailing projects where functional imaging has shown promise as a clinical tool for adults with brain tumours. The afternoon on the first day will include talks on the main aspects of and issues facing functional imaging. The day will conclude with an open discussion to decide on which clinical questions and technological deveopments should be the focus of the closed workshop. The morning session of the second day will concentrate on how functional imaging and high resolution spectrsocopy can be used to improve our understanding of childhood brain tumours and will conclude the open workshop. The final session will be a closed workshop of about 30 delegates, specialists in functional imaging and key clinicians who will be involved in setting up clinical projects. This will take forward the ideas developed in the open worksho and aim to generate both clinical and scientific projects.
