The project will apply constraint satisfaction techniques for the analysis of biochemical networks (metabolic pathways, regulatory networks, and/or signal transduction). Tools will be developed for solving different classes of analysis problems for such networks : path finding, pattern matching and analysis of similarities. The tools will be coupled to the aMAZE database, an existing, and rapidly expanding, database that integrates information on metabolic pathways and regulatory pathways at the gene and protein levels. These tools will be tested on two model organisms, namely Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae whose genome has been sequenced and whose metabolism and regulation are well characterized.
