Summary on Grant Application Form
The overall aim of this research project is to investigate how to specify, reason about and engineer dependable grid-based systems that are constructedby composing services from a range of providers. We will focus on several related research questions. How can information about the dependability of a service be specified and included in theservice interface? How can service dependability information be used to make inferences about the overall dependability of systems created throughservice integration? How can the real-world dependability goals of grid application users and developers be specified as system dependability requirements? What is an appropriate generic, dependable service-centric software engineering process for virtual organisations? What application architectures are most appropriate for fault-tolerant service based systems? The results will be two major deliverables - a service specification handbook describing methods for specifying quality of service and service dependability requirements and a service-centric development process guide describing processes for creating dependable, grid-based systems.
