Summary on Grant Application Form
We will develop and evaluate a computational model of visual attention and object recognition that is able to parse scenes and identify the object present. We will implement (i) dynamic, multi-scale visual processing, (ii) intermediate-level grouping based on non-accidental image properties, (iii) a flexible mechanism for object recognition (comparing graph-matching and principal components analysis). The model will be tested by coml its performance to that of human observers, using both existing and newly generated psychophysical experiments. We will also evaluate the mod success in identifying objects in natural scenes.
