Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to carry out an investigation of photoexcited spin polarised electron transport in spin valve/semiconductor structures. We will focus on the spin dependent transmission of photoexcited electrons fabricated from MBE-grown ultrathin ferromagnetic layers supported by oriented GaAs and GaAs quantum well substrates. By varying the GaAs substrate doping and structure and by tuning the thickness and composition of the spin valve structure, we seek to demonstrate unambiguously that ballistic electron spin filtering occurs and that the magnetocurrent can be optimised for photonic/spin electronic applications.
