Summary on Grant Application Form
It is the aim of this work to determine the most appropriate combination of materials and device design to produce tuneable dielectric filters for microwave communications systems. The programme will consider not only the optimum choice of material and theoretical device design, but also the manufacturab the devices. The programme also focuses upon the influence of non-linear dielectric properties upon filter performance.Three different types of non-linear dielectric materials will be tested in bulk form to determine their field dependent properties in the frequency range of int Candidate materials will then be prepared in thin/thick form film using a composite sol-gel approach to achieve the required film thicknesses in a time-efficient process. Filter design will be carried out in parallel, initially employing simple lumped models, but progressing to electromagnetic field simulations. Prototy will be tested against the models, progressing to both refinement of the model and the filter design. Final demonstrator devices will be prepared ias example both integrated and discrete devices.
