Summary on Grant Application Form
Modern thermal imaging instrumentation has reached a stage of maturity and sophistication that allows sensitive, high resolution (spatial and temporal) performance in a user friendly video camera format. The technique can be expoited in several medical contexts including physiology and diagnosis, orthopaedics, and surgery. The intention is to bring these various groupings under one roof for the purposes of discourse and the development of collaborative links. Newer entrants to the field, and those considering branching into thermography, will also have ample scope to develop a better understanding of the current UK areas of expertise, the key players, and importantly, an introduction to the scientific protocols and other standard practices for operating and maintainence of new generation cameras. Specific collaborative links will be established by the organisers (which involves English, Welsh and Scottish Universities) and these will focus on: (i) Infrared thermography for general medical use in the UK and (ii) The UK-wide study of Raynaud's phenomenon using thermal imaging and related techniques.Dissemination from the meeting will be via a dedicated web-site containing refereed contributed papers, and also via publication of selected articles in Thermology International . Full abstracts from the meeting will be published in Thermology International also.
