Summary on Grant Application Form
We aim to develop a network in actinide chemistry that links the few remaining research scientists in the UK who are doing actinide chemistry in a bid to increase the profile of this negected area of chemical research. By increasing the interactions between actinide research teams in different institutions it is hoped that new collaborative research programmes will be initiated and that a revival in research in this subject area can be achieved. It is also our aim that this increase in actinide chemistry research can match the demands of both the nuclear industry and the nuclear regulatory bodies. The role of the network will be to develop joint research programmes, maintain and further develop links with the nuclear industry and produce a web based resource for actinide chemistry. Annual actinide chemistry workshops, with invited international speakers, will also be organised and the network will link with relevant international research groups. Finally, steps will be taken to maintain a database on actinide chemistry and to work with other relevant bodies, including the RSC, the EU and the nuclear industry to ensure the long term viability of the network.
