Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal seeks funding to support a six-month research visit hosted by Professor Tom Scarpas at Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands which will take place from March 11 to August 31 2002.The main technical aim of the visit is to develop a validated low strain-rate module for asphalt for an existing Finite Element (FE) program written in Delft (CAPA-3D). This research is to be undertaken in collaboration with a Dutch asphalt contracting organisation, Ooms Avenhorn, who will provide facilities and personnel for some of the element testing and the large scale testing (detailed discussions have taken place and a programme of work has been agreed).During the Research Semester contacts will also be established with the Delft team and other key groups in Europe for future joint research projects.
