While materials based on the perovskite structure show the optimum ferroelectric properties, these are achieved only by high temperature annealing and thus are rarely attained in device maufacture involving temperature sensitive components. This propsal seeks to explore methods of depositing thin films of an alternative ferroelectric material, Sb(S)I, which, if deposition at T < 500oC can be achieved, may prove a better alternative material in device manufacture. CVd s chosen as the deposition medium as it offers a route to fast, conformal coatings.The project will develop CVD precursors for both Sb(S)I and Sb2S3, the latter being known to orient the Sb(S)I growth to maximise the material properties. This will require the synthesis of volatile antimony thiolates and dithiocarbamates, mixed iodoantimony thiolates/dithiocarbamates and a study of their thermal decompositions and CVD applicability.Neither material has previously been the target of CVD methodology, and the deposition of metal iodides in general has been ignored.
