Summary on Grant Application Form
The central theme of these proposals is to investigate the scope of version of the reverse-Cope cyclisation wherin the necessary hydroxylamine function is generated by intramolecular addition of an alcohol group to either a nitrone or an oxime, effectively producing an 'anomeric' hydroxylamine. Reverse-Cope cyclisation will then generate bicyclic systems, most likely in a highly stereocontrolled fashion, which have potential as precursors to pyrrolidines, tetrahydrofurans and azabicyclic systems. The effects of variations in precursors ring sizes and of substituents, both peripheral and on the reacting alkene function will be a primary interest.
