Summary on Grant Application Form
The Proposer and Visiting Fellow will work on the problem of constructing analytic functions subject to given specifications in a context that arises in control engineering, specifically in the matter of designing control systems which perform well in the face of structured uncertainty of the plant to be controlled. They have previously made, a breakthrough on a long-stalled problem (known as the problem of mu-synthesis ) by exploiting a mixture of the theory of operators on infinite-dimensional spaces, classical function theory and the geometry of higher-dimensional complex domains. They wish to pursue further the implications of their discoveries for geometry and analysis. In particular they believe they can compute a new global invariant for a particular domain that will enable them to resolve an open question in complex geometry.
