Summary on Grant Application Form
My plan is to exploit the representations of the graded components of top local cohomology modules as the cokernels of certain matrices to produce examples which exhibit unusual behaviour. Such examples would include local cohomology modules of k-algebras (where k is a field) with infinitely many associated primes and local cohomology modules of algebras over a field of characteristic zero with cohomological Hilbert functions which are not of polynomial type.I would also like to find representations of local cohomology modules which would enable one to carry out effective computations of their properties. One such algorithm would be for the detection of the vanishing of graded components of local cohomology modules.Another aim is to link these results to other areas of research in commutative algebra. Two candidates for such areas are Hilbert-Kunz functions and the theory of tight closure.
