Summary on Grant Application Form
The grant will fund a collaboration between the Department of Computing Science, University of Glasgow (GU), and the Fondazione Ugo Bordoni research institute, Rome, Italy (FUB), both on research and soft engineering aspects.Over a period of 18 months, the collaboration will consist in developing a theoretical framework for modeling, indexing and retrieving information on the Web. This framework will feed directly into a baseline system allowing the participation of both partners in a subsequent TREC competition . The TREC experiments are designed to allow large-scale laboratory testing of information retrieval techniques.More importantly, the output system might be able to serve as a test-bed for exploring our ideas regarding the modeling and retrieval of documents on the Web. The system will also serve as a training framework and a development platform for our undergraduate and postgraduate students.
