Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of this proposal is to provide a 600 MHz NMR spectrometer equipped for both solids and liquids at the University of Exeter. The NMR of solids research group at Exeter, led by Dr S Wimperis, will use this high-field NMR instrument to reduce the second-order quadrupolar interaction of half-integer quadrupolar nuclei, such as 17-0, 27-AI and 71-Ga, so that a much wider range of MAS, MQMAS and STMAS NMR studies of important inorganic solids and materials may be undertaken. Other research groups at Exeter (Professors Bruce, Littlechild and Moody and Drs Coldham, Lowden, Shipman and Tucker) will use the instrument to support a diverse range of investigations in biomolecular, biosynthetic and synthetic chemistry that span virtually the full breadth of the EPSRC Chemistry Programme.
