Summary on Grant Application Form
SummaryDescribe the proposed research in about 200 words.A research group, currently 11 people and likely to be 15 or more within the year, is moving into new laboratories provided by JIF funding. JIF provided the building but has not provided contents. We have laboratory area of about 170 square metres. Projects are in the general area of biologically Inspired engineering design and are either new (started within the last few months) or are in a late stage of planning. They cover biologically inspired robotics, smart materials, joining systems, autoassembly and general technology transfer (TRIZ). This list will expand to cover food texture, fracture of complex materials and structures, modular biomimetic materials and structures, general aspects of biomimetic design and biological templates for materials and structures. These projects are in conjunction with the Universities of Reading and Southampton (UK). Projects with Exeter and Cranfield are in planning.
