Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal covers a wide range of topics at the forefront of research in theoretical condensed matter physics and statistical mechanics. It is presented as nine distinct projects, but with emphasis placed on the strong scientific and programmatic links between them:(1) to develop physical applications of the new mathematics of exactly solvable models to quantum imputiry problems, Josephson junctions, non-equilibruim systems, percolation networks, polymer statistics and wetting; (2) explore new mechanisms for quantum localisation in randow media and (3) new physics in quantum Hall systems and quantum antiferromagnets; (4) study dynamics of wetting and spreading of fluids and microfluidics, (5) liquid crystals hydrodynamics and its application to device design, and (6) mesoscale approaches to polymer dynamics; (7) investigate the role of disorder in non-equilibrium phase transitions; (8) understand jamming and slow dynamics in glassy systems through simple models; (9) understand cooperative dynamical behaviour in a wide variety of complex systems, employing methods of physics to analyse more general problems.
