This is a proposal for a 6-month Visiting Fellowship for Professor Nissim Franez, of the computer science department, the technion-IIT, Haifa, Isreal, for the period 3/02-9/02. It aims to continue work begun during a previous EPSRC funded visiting fellowship during 7/1/86-9/97 at the University of Manchester (GR/L075291). The earlier research resulted in a temporal semantics for sentences ( in English) with temporal preposition phrases (TTPs) {1}, accompanied by a new decidable temporal logic {2}. The semantics was developed independantly of any syntactic theory and syntax-semantic parsing interface, a need which the present proposal seeks to fulfil, exploiting work at Edinburgh on CCG-based Natural Language Processing.
