Summary on Grant Application Form
We will perform the first systematic investigation into the technique of plasma-assisted catalysis for the destruction of volatile organic compounds in atmospheric pressure, waste gas streams using non-thermal plasma methods. A range of catalysts (A1-)03, other metal oxides and zeolites) will be studied to investigate the degree of enhancement over plasma destruction methods alone. A range of volatile organic compounds will be used including commonly-emitted solvents, halogenated compounds and odorous molecules. Catalytic surface chemistry will be incorporated into our existing computer model for plasma processing to gain an understanding of the mechanism of plasma-assisted catalysis.
