Summary on Grant Application Form
Investment casting is a time consuming, labour intensive process, which produces complex components for aerospace, power generation, nuclear, medical and automotive industries. Wax patterns are invested into a slurry, until a mould with sufficient strength for wax removal and metal casting has been produced. The moulds take between 24 and 72 hours to prepare, which is major process limitiation. The aim is to reduce the production time to a minimum by rapid intercoat gellation without the need for moisture removal. This will allow wax to de-wax in less than 60 minutes, significantly reducing production costs by an estimated 75%.
