It is proposed that the EPSRC solid-state NMR research service, based at Durham, continue to be supported until 30 June 2006. The service will use one third (2728 hours) of the spectrometer time available (including time for maintenance, training, experiment development and any time lost through instrument failure). Of the time available to users, 80% will be allocated to external users and 20% will be for in-house (Durham Chemistry Department) use. It is anticipated that there will be 25 to 35 users each year. A wide-range of solid-state NMR experiments will be available on state-of-the-art instrumentation for members of the UK academic community. The technique will be applicable across a wide range of chemistry, to both heterogeneous and homogeneous systems including: novel organic, inorganic and organometallic compounds, polymers (natural and synthetic), solid fuels, pharmaceuticals and excipients, composites, ceramics, liquid crystals and biologically based systems.
