Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the project is to demonstrate the strengths of Group Interaction Modelling (GIM) of relevant matrix properties for incorporation in composite predictions, especially the effect of moisture absorption and cure. The aims will be achieved by examining a range of fundamental epoxy resins and blends for validating GIM predictions. Model composites will also be studied with regard to thermal strain development and the ability of GIM to predict the response of the composite. Thus appropriate matrix properties for validation will include the coefficient of thermal expansion, glass transition envelopes and matrix shear yield strength.
