Summary on Grant Application Form
One of the key Grid Technologies for scientific applications will be the provision of user-friendly tools to access and analyse large databases which are located at geographically disparate sites. This project will build upon the work of the EU DataGdd Architecture Task Force, and that of EU DataGrid Work Packages 1 and 2, by taking the basic components and tools provided for data handling and job submission, and constructing software applications and interfaces for Grid users, in particular, experimental particle physicists. The project will use techniques from computer science and software engineering to contribute to the development of the underlying components. By building upon the initial models in existing EU DataGrid Work Package documentation, a more complete description will be developed for each of the necessary components: a prerequisite for the planned software construction. The project will also produce models of the service to be provided by the planned software that can be used to refine descriptions of user requirements. The two sets of models-component-level and user-level---will then be used to guide the implementation and testing of the software itself.
