Summary on Grant Application Form
a) to set up a high-resolution micromagnetisation measurement technique (Hall micromagnetometry) allowing studie of thermodynamic properties of individual objects of submicron and nanometer size; b) to apply this technique to investigation of novel mesoscopic structures and devices and to known but poorly understood systems; c) to investigate the influence of geometry and topology on vortex behaviour and superconducting critical parameter: of submicron disks, rings, coils and Moebius loops; d) to investigate magnetic properties of hybrid systems comprising superconducting, normal-metal and ferromagnetic components; e) to investigate possible new vortex phases and search for new phenomena in high-temperature and recentlydiscovered superconducting materials; f) to support multidisciplinary use of the new micromagnetometry set-up by making it accessible to several collaborating groups from other departments. Lancaster's application form lists an additional set of objectives concerning the theoretical part of the project.
