Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal aims to create a mathematical theory that predicts the location of the transition between the free-flowing and lossy states of a packet switched network. The theory will identify the sources of stochasticity in such a network and use these explicitly in building a process model that describes the dynamics of interacting queues. The order parameters controlling this transition will be investigated and recommendations will be made on their use in network dimensioning and congestion management. The theory will be based on adapting techniques used in theoretical physics.
