Summary on Grant Application Form
In this project we shalll develop theorerical methods to describe the evolution of Bose-Einstein condensed atoms used in various applications of Coherent matter waves. These applications includes atom optics, interferometry and other precision measurements. The techniques we shall use will enable us to follow the generation of entanglement through interactions between the atoms. We shall assess the possibility of producing squeezed sources of matter waves for use in Heisenberg limited interferometry. We shall include in our simulations a full assessment of the role of decohererence in the possible experiments. These will include the transfer of condensates to optical lattices. The techniques will also enable us to study the production of coherent beams of molecules from a condensed gas. We shall develop a combination of formal theory and computational techniques to achive these aims.We shall interact closely with experimental groups to ensure that the theory we develop is of maximum use in planning and analysing future experiments
