The basic concept of the GAS-ZEP process is the combustion of natural gas in a nitrogen free atmosphere in a gas turbine combined cycle power plant. To achieve this pure oxygen is used in the combustion chamber. Therefore, the exhaust gas from the gas turbine consists mainly of water vapour and CO2. A proportion of the xhaust gas is cooled and circulated bak tot he combustion zone to control the combustion temperature. Water is separated from the recirculated gas by cooling and condensation. CO2 is also separated from the recirculated gas and fed to a CO2 compressor and treatment stage prior to sequestration. The primarty feature of the combustion system ist hat it is closed and has no emissions to the atmosphere. Within this proposed research the project partners will carry out a concept dsign for the GAS-ZEP process. This will include a detailed design of the key components within the system, such as the combustor, gas turbine, CO2 expander and waste heat recovery boiler, and an evaluation of the materials issues. A full technoeconomic evaluation will provide the information required for a market evaluation and technology exploitation plan.
