Summary on Grant Application Form
Describe the proposed research in about 200 words.Only holistic and integrated solutions developed jointly with the end users of those solutions will deliver sustainable business benefits to the construc sector. Piece-meal approaches have failed to achieve the impact required to change practices in industry. Our vision is therefore driven by a holistic, integrated approach to deliver a built environment that consistently meets the quality of life and competitiveness enhancing needs and aspirations of individuals and society as a whole, in a fashion which is economically, socially and environmentally appropriate and sustainable. The Innovative Manufacturing Initiative recognised that most industry sectors have significant potential to learn from each other, and to improve both individual and collective sector performance through the understanding and effective transfer of key organisation, management and technology capabilities and resources. The past seven years of collaborative research between academia and industry has confirmed the value of this approach and emphasise the need to develop robust joined up thinking between activities, organisations and industry sectors at regional, national and global levels in order to produce focused, and systemically coherent improvements. Our ultimate goal is to establish a new culture of collaboration that will lead to the creation of knowledge that is a basis for action and a platform for further improvement, thereby adding real value to society, industry and academia in the UK and reinforcing our international leadership. This will be achieved through the establishment of the Salford Innovative Manufacturing Research Centr
