Abstract of proposed research (not exceeding 200 words) We have developed using computer simulation a novel type of antenna near-field measurement based on a number of connected and differently orientated planer scans. An example of such a scan system would be a pyramid with flat top (5 planar scans). Such a system provides the means for measuring wide-angle radiation patterns with small low cost planar scanners. Applications include low gain antennas such as those used for mobile communications and high gain large antennas. This proposal request funds to build a system to verify the technique and provide QMUL with measurement capability in the important mobile band of 750Nfliz to 5GHz. The requested planar scanner also provides a much-needed diagnostic tool for our millimetrewave CATR research. The requested range receiver also provides important S-parameter measurement capability to aid the Group's work in mobile antenna research.
