Summary on Grant Application Form
The integrated performance of large civil airplane and its turbofan propulsion system is very important for airlines and manufacturers. The proposed new integral modelling of aerodynamic interaction between high-bypass-ratio fan, intake and bypass-stream nozzle, is expected to preent more accurately whole turbofan engine performance. Nowaday, CFD has been applied to many component research and design application; it gives more detailed flow information and can give relatively accurate flow field for simple geometries like intakes and nozzles. The novelities of the proposal are1) to integrate the whole turbofan engine performance program with CFD modelling of intake and nozzle.2) to present the complex fan system as a two-dimensional model, developed from actual data from rig and engine test in Cranfield University. It isfaster than CFD modelling, but representative of the phenomena. It also can give reasonable results.3) to investiagte and develop the interface conditions between CFD models and 2-D fan model
