a) ALC measurements of polycrystalline powdered samples of the bases Adenine (A), Cyostine (C), Guarine (G), Thymine (T), and Uracil (U) and their corresponding nucleotides (base-sugar-phosphate) will be performed. The resonances due to their diffferent adducts will be assigned with the aid of ab initio DFT calculations we are already carrying out at UEA.Muon spin rotation experiments will be performed on concentrated aqueous solutions of the five nucleotides (concentrations in excess of 2.5 M are readily obtainable). The nucleosides (base-sugar) which do not decompose on melting, adenosine , thymine and uridine will be examined as melts.b) Muon spin rotation spectra of molten ferrocene and ALC spectra of perdeuteroferrocene from ambient to 15k will be run to provide data to complete the experiments on this system and for publication.
