Summary on Grant Application Form
The University of York will develop its research in Analytical Science by the appointment of a new Research Professor in the area ofHigh Throughput Profiling. The Chair would be complemented by a new lectureship in Cheminformatics and an Experimental Officerposition in Analytical Instrumentation, both funded by the University, and an additional 600 m2 of new laboratory space. The research will be closely coupled to that of groups developing new synthetic and catalytic methodologies and to the Department's Structural Biology Laboratory. We will, in particular, build on existing links with the Departments of Computer Science and Biology, exploiting their strengths in high-performance pattern matching, machine learning, plant science and human cell biology to open up novel interdisciplinary research in knowledge integration and extraction, proteomics and metabolic profiling. Central to our proposal is a substantial level of collaboration with leading pharmaceutical and related industries and analytical instrument manufacturers.
