Summary on Grant Application Form
The MTP is partly based on two successful MSc programmes, in Operational Research (OR) and in Management Science (MS), which have been run by the University of Southampton for over 20 years. The existing MSc in OR is positioned at the mathematical end of OR, whereas the current MSc in MS provides a more general management training. The proposed MTP, which has two alternative pathways for its core and a wide range of modular options, will provide a unique multidisciplinary training in OR/MS. The options allow students to study specialist OR techniques, information systems, risk, or applications of OR in finance and health, or a combination of several of these. The duration of the programme is 12 months, of which the first 9 months is in full-time taught mode at the University of Southampton, and the remaining 3 months are spent working on an industrial project. The MTP is vocationally oriented, with an emphasis on business awareness as well as technical skills, and there will be strong collaborative input from a range of external organisations, from both the public and private sectors.
