Summary on Grant Application Form
The programme will comprise three major elements:1. The integrated research programmes. The scientific activities and skills required to support and expand this sector are broad but they are to be found in the unique mix of groupings included in this application. A broad industrial relevance of the long-term themes will be a major consideration.2. Technology transfer and training of both academic and industrial personnel. Much of the research will involve close collaboration with Industry, in both its definition and its execution. This will facilitate technology transfer and it is also envisaged that the academic group will develop and support specific training packages from the industrial sector.3. A short-term problem solving and consultancy base. The Centre will allow for short-term consultancy and project execution to enable the collective expertise to be applied. Detailed funding arrangements will be determined by a management board initially these will be at minimum costs while the Centre becomes established. In the longer term, to encourage technology transfer, consultancy rates will be discounted for companies with active research collaborations
