Summary on Grant Application Form
Measurement and benchmarking of environmental and social performance is critical to improving the sustainabitity of industry. Without knowledge of performance and how it compares with best practice, companies find difficulty in making the technological and management choices that will make their products and processes more sustainable. This project will create web-based benchmarking tools for UK industry linked to an integrated database of environmental, business and social information and analysis about companies. The aim is to set in place an authoritative, flexible, easy-to-use source of environmental and social performance data about UK industrial companies. In addition, the project will develop management process tools enabling companies to use knowledge about their relative environmental and social performance in management and decision-making. The project aims to develop tools that will enable companies to move beyond reporting and towards sustained environmental and social performance management. It is envisaged that once in place, these resources will be maintained at relatively low cost through subscription and sponsorship.
