Summary on Grant Application Form
Student researchers will gain valuable experiences through individual research projects and structured research training programmes. Each student researcher will be assigned to an individual and specific research project in an engineering department at Loughborough, where he/she will work closely under the supervision of an academic staff, in conjunction with post-doctoral researchers, research assistants or research students. This will allow student researchers to experience first-hand how basic research is carried out, to contribute to it consequentially and to present the outcome of the research in written, oral and poster form. Development of collegial relationships and student-staff interactions and student-student communication is seen to be an important part of the proposed project. Projects will provide opportunities for high quality interaction of student researchers with research active academic staff and/or other research mentors and students, and will provide access to appropriate facilities and professional development opportunities. Projects will be of 10-week duration and carried out during the summer months. ENSURE Scheme will offer research experience opportunity to approximately 24 undergraduates during a period of three years. Students will be accepted from throughout the country. A significant fraction of them will be selected from outside the host institution.
