Summary on Grant Application Form
The project will develop and evaluate a prototype broker service (IBS) based on type theory and coordinated atomic transaction. The aim is to provide the means by which heterogenous information from large-scale distributed servers can be integrated in a flexible, seemless and reliable function. This integration will be achieved via the IBS, which will provide the mapping'on demand' between data sources, access and control facilities, event notification, transaction integrity and control, and distribution. The evaluation will be performed with the active participation of partners in the healthcare domain, which provides an examplar of this problem in which timing constraints are important but not overwhelmingly dominant, hence allowing the project to focus on the key issues addressed by the IBS.
