Summary on Grant Application Form
W e propose to run an annual neuroinformatics summer school that focusses on the use of computer simulation tools for constructing and analysing computational models of neuroscientific processes. W e will deliver a three day intensive workshop targetted at postgraduate researchers; that is, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and members of faculty. W e will bring experimental neuroscientists together with researchers with a background in the physical, mathematical and computer sciences who are interested in using the currently available simulation tools for modelling neural processes. The workshop will be held at Edinburgh University within the Institute for Adaptive & Neural Computation in the Division of Informatics, directed by Professor David Wilshaw and Dr. Nigel Goddard, and taught by Dr. Bruce Graham and Dr. Robert Cannon. The first day will concentrate on modelling of nerve cells at the cellular level, the second day on modelling of cells at the network level and on the third day a choice of advanced topics will be offered. The class size will be 25, drawn from UK PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and faculty members in experimental neuroscience, physical, mathematical and computer science with an interest in modelling of the nervous system.
