Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the proposed Network is to capitalise on the existing, but diffuse, UK activities in biomimetics. It will identify R&D and commercial opportunities for exploitation and provide a focus for converging interests. Its interdisciplinary approach will help to develop novel problem-solving methods for sustainable technologies. The network structure will be very effective in tackling the well-known communication problems associated with multidisciplinary work, as witnessed by the range of disciplines and interests represented in the initial list of participants, academic and industrial. As well as performing these functions, the network will have a significant role in dissemination of ideas and education. The methodology suggested to achieve these goals relies on strong project management as well as on collective activities targeted at marketing, education, collaboration and coordination.
