Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal addresses the use of formaldehyde or isocyanate based resins in the panel and fibre moulding industries. Currently the industry is dominated by these resin systems but increasing legislation means the industry is looking for renewable/sustainable alternatives. The methodology outlined below would yield a range of novel bio-derived resins that contain no formaldehyde and when used in conjunction with natural fibres such as hemp and flax would form true renewable composites that would rival the current fibre glass / synthetic resin composites used by the majority of UK industry
