Summary on Grant Application Form
The Enabling Technologies MRC co-op is (a) developing a series of enabling technologies for high throughput capability for post-genomic biological research and (b) applying and validating these technologies in case studies in the are of cardiovascular research . This is being achieved by a series of interlinked projects between physical and life scientists, and is focussed on [1 ] screening of actions on membrane channels and [2] molecular recognition mechanisms, with the aims of identifying novel taregets for therapetic intervention. The proposed network will recruit satellites to the Leeds co-op, identify and develop new application areas for these technologies and develop collaborations for the exploitation of these technologies. One of the technologies, virtual tissue engineering, already hosts an EPSRC LSI network and has received major JREI funding .We expect that, through the dissemenination of information from case studies of practical relevance, best practices for developing collaborations betweeen groups working in functional genomics in different disciplines and organisation types will emerge and be assessed.
