|
Synergies exist between the UK gropus currently in the field of organic-ignorganic hybrids for structural and semi-structural applications, but so far, no mechanism has existed to tap the potential of this grouping and promote significantly increased activity in the area. A meeting of universities and companies with interestes inthis field agreed the need for increased and better-coordinated activity in the field and reached unanimous agreement that the formation of a UK network was the fiest logical step towards this goal. this therefore represents the rationale behind the current proposal. the aim of the network is to promote activity in the following areas: development of new and improved routes to the synthesis of hybrids, improved understanding of hybrid structure, generation of a mechanical property database, generation of structure-properly relationships relevant to other key hybrid properties, development of an understanding of the structural factors affecting processing, development of molecular models and development of hybrid systems for use as composite matrices. This will be promoted through meetings, conferences and other relevant activities
