Summary on Grant Application Form
The project will establish a major extension of the existing National X-ray Crystallography Service, making use of the special facilities available at station 9.8 of the Daresbury Laboratory synchrotron Radiation source. The combined service will be managed and operated as a unified service, with a single sample submission and screening procedure and a single Management Panel for the review and selection of projects from applicants eligible for EPSRC funding support. Users will be provided with either diffraction data (following preliminary processing) or a completely refined structure, depending on their needs, in the same way as in the core service at Southampton, and will not need to become expert synchrotron users for only occasional use. The service will use 30 days of beam-time per year for single-crystal diffraction data collection. The proposal represents the most cost-effective possible use of these unique facilities in support of a wide range of UK chemical research.
